My Style

"Game Zone", 24 x 36", oil acrylic on poster-board

I do not create art because I’m a philosopher, making a political statement, or trying to change the world. I create art for the sake of video games, and to explore fiction and mythology. Sometimes I make pieces out of humor due to gamers or businesses in the gaming industry making baffling decisions or arguments.

While I can not say that I have a “go-to” style per se’, I do favor creating works on cartoons of slapstick or crass humor to get a message across. The works I create of a non-humor nature requires a bit of context to get the gist of. Usually it would either have a mythological or historical base behind it, and the audience would have to do a bit of research though I do not exactly make it difficult because I throw hints either in the description or the title itself.

The Story

Born May of 1997 in Manila, Philippines between two United States citizens; Garrett T. grew up under a business environment with his home literally attached to the construction equipment and hardware retail branch. During his early years he would stumble upon video games and it would remain a fixation to present day.

He would arrive to the United States of America on June of 2008 after a family consensus was made that there is no future in the Philippines. While he left behind many things, both physical and non-physical, in his birth country, his love for video games had not extinguished and it renewed in his home country. As the years went on, his inquisitive mind would lead him to research mythology and the basis for the characters and settings behind his beloved video games. And this would lead to a newfound hobby of researching legends, digging up trivia, and all the little tidbits used by video-game designers to create elaborate works.

It would not be until he faced the prospect of finding a career path in the latter years of high school that he would settle on becoming a video game designer, specfically the game art division. However, having a more mature mind meant he would also stumble on the more controversial side of the industry through news media and articles. Revaluating his options, he instead opted to approach art as a means of opportunity.
